Robin Rhodes serves as President of New Jersey Advocates of Education.
Robin joined NJAE in 2004, bringing with her 30+ years of experience in Information Technology. After having a very successful career in Informaion Technology, she was down-sized which created an opportunity for her to explore her passions in the educational field. Coming from Brooklyn, NY Robin had worked informally mentoring students and helping them to understand the value of an education and understand that it’s obtainable regardless of the circumstances and perceived obstacles. After getting downsized, she was invited to run for the Maplewood / South Orange Board of Education. That experience provided her with an insight into the education system of the workings of the public school system. Shortly after an opportunity to join the staff at NJAE presented itself.
Sharing her sentiments: ” Working with NJAE has been a most rewarding experience.I can say I have a true understanding of what obstacles minority students face. I’ve seen how underprepared too many students are for pursuing a higher education. Yet, I’ve also witnessed numerous success stories. I’ve watched students fall and get up and rise to defeat the challenges. These young people have rallied to not be part of the negative statistics. They are energized. They want to part of chaning the tide. I am in awe of their strength.”
NJAE provides support; both financial and academic through its programming. NJAE scholars have gone on to become those high achievers; going on to meet the goal of graduating college, becoming contributors to society, becoming change agents in their communities, becoming role modes for their families. Turning dreams into realities.
Robin is currently pursuing a dual degree program at Drexel University studying Psychology with an expected graduation date of May 2017.
